Cryotherapy and Thermotherapy

When visiting a chiropractor, you may have experienced the use of ice (cryotherapy) or heat (thermotherapy) to aid injury recovery and to make your adjustment easier.  While heat and ice are both beneficial, they serve different purposes.  For example, if an injury is recent, it is usually best to use ice.  If there is a chronic injury (3 months or longer),  heat is usually preferred.  Chiropractors often use cryotherapy or thermotherapy in conjunction with other modalities like electrical muscle stimulation or ultrasound to provide the most benefits to the patient to decrease muscle spasms, pain, swelling, stiffness, etc.  It is best for your chiropractor to decide what therapies will be best for you in conjunction with your adjustment.  Contact our office today to find out how we can benefit you!
