How can Chiropractic help treat knee pain?

More than 100 million people in the U.S. suffer from chronic knee pain which is now the second most common type of chronic pain.  Knee pain can be caused by arthritis, old injuries, obesity, incorrect mechanics and inflammation.  A detailed history and orthopedic evaluation helps Dr. Dawn to specifically target the cause of pain, not just treat the symptoms.  Knees can be adjusted and other therapies such as cryotherapy, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound and physical rehabilitation can help to significantly decrease pain and discomfort.  As a multi-disciplinary office, we also offer a series of knee joint injections that can reduce pain and inflammation and help to maintain some cushion in the knee in order to make everyday activities much more comfortable.  Also, Dr. Dawn can provide nutritional counseling because, according to research, losing 10-15 lbs can decrease knee pain more than 50%.  Let us give you the opportunity to decrease your pain and increase your activity just in time for the spring and summer!

Treatment of Ear Infections-Swimmer’s Ear

With spring and summer activities starting, especially swimming, people of all ages may experience ear discomfort, fullness, and even pain.  Our ears are a complex structure made of bone, skin and cartilage that are organized into a tubular form.  Because of the anatomy, our ears become susceptible to holding and keeping fluid in them, whether it’s from an outside source (swimming) or an internal source (allergies).  Adults have an angled ear canal while children have a horizontal ear canal, making their ears even more difficult to drain.  Chiropractic adjustments are a proven and effective way of avoiding pain and suffering often present with “swimmer’s ear.”  Adjustments improve our nervous system and immune system’s ability to respond to infection.  If you experience ear discomfort or pain, ask your chiropractor about what can be done to help.

Can children be treated chiropractically?

Many adults have heard or know about chiropractic care in order to treat whiplash or low back pain.  But what many adults don’t know is that chiropractic care can be a great benefit for children.  Problems like wry-neck (torticollis), colic, constipation, and frequent “spitting-up” are commonly treated with specific adjustments to the spine.  Almost 18% of children experience these symptoms, which may not always include pain.  Adjustments for children are very safe and can help prevent other issues like acid-reflux, hyperactivity, scoliosis, bedwetting and sleeplessness.  Minor spinal biomechanical irritations can lead to childhood disorders, which if not checked, can result in more severe conditions.  Early intervention is the key especially with children to prevent progressive disorders.  Call our office today to schedule an appointment for your child.

Cryotherapy and Thermotherapy

When visiting a chiropractor, you may have experienced the use of ice (cryotherapy) or heat (thermotherapy) to aid injury recovery and to make your adjustment easier.  While heat and ice are both beneficial, they serve different purposes.  For example, if an injury is recent, it is usually best to use ice.  If there is a chronic injury (3 months or longer),  heat is usually preferred.  Chiropractors often use cryotherapy or thermotherapy in conjunction with other modalities like electrical muscle stimulation or ultrasound to provide the most benefits to the patient to decrease muscle spasms, pain, swelling, stiffness, etc.  It is best for your chiropractor to decide what therapies will be best for you in conjunction with your adjustment.  Contact our office today to find out how we can benefit you!
